AIR 2023 aligned

Next Stop announcements that are clear & compliant

A dedicated announcement engine for buses and coaches: separate TTS and screen pipelines, stop-radius logic, terminating behaviour, and PSVAIR-friendly legibility — all designed for UK operations.

System Components

A quick tour of the moving parts that make announcements reliable and readable.

Stop Announcement

Geofenced stop radii with optional speed gating ensure “This is…” triggers only when the vehicle stops inside the zone; pass-throughs switch to “Next stop…” after exit.

  • Configurable radius per stop

National Public Transport Access Nodes (NaPTAN)

Every transportation stop in the United Kingdom is provided thanks to the NaPTAN dataset

TTS & Generated Voice

Speech and screen are orchestrated separately. What’s spoken may differ from what’s shown; each pipeline has its own timing, queueing, and failover.

  • Clear TTS voice
  • Screen-safe phrasing and truncation

Passenger Display & Legibility

Large, high-contrast typography with PSVAIR-friendly layout. Supports dual-screen modes (front/rear) and right-to-left scripts.

  • Minimum text sizes for key lines
  • Contrast checks and auto two-line wrap
  • Map panel (Leaflet/OSM) optional

Control Panel

Operator dashboard to tune radii, dwell times, voices, and display profiles.

Tackle Signal Blackspots

  • Announcement & visual when signal is lost
  • Automatic recovery upon signal restore

FAQ

Does this comply with PSVAIR (AIR 2023)?

It’s designed to align with AIR 2023 principles: clear audible and visual information, readable text sizes, and consistent triggering logic. Final compliance depends on your hardware and deployment context.

What information is shown on screen?

The system displays the current stop, the next stop, and the final destination in large, high-contrast text, with layout designed to meet PSVAR minimum legibility standards.

How are audio announcements handled?

Audio announcements use clear text-to-speech voices and follow the AIR 2023 requirement to provide the same information both audibly and visually at the appropriate times.

What happens if the bus skips a stop?

If a stop is passed without stopping, the system will not trigger a “This is” message. Instead, it will announce the next stop once the stop zone has been exited, ensuring consistency with AIR 2023 guidance.

Can this work on rail replacement and private hire coaches?

Yes. The system is designed to retrofit easily into coaches, making them compliant with AIR 2023 requirements for accessible information.

Does it support multiple routes?

Yes. Routes are setup using an online portal, and the system will trigger stop announcements and displays based on real-time GPS position.

What if GPS signal is lost?

In the event of a prolonged network outage, passengers are informed whilst the system attempts to reconnect automatically. Announcements resume once signal is restored.

Is the display text size compliant?

Yes. Meeting the PSVAR minimum 22mm character height equivalent when viewed on the recommended display sizes.

How does it ensure consistency between audio and visual outputs?

Both outputs are generated from the same event logic. Visuals update alongside audio, ensuring passengers always receive the same information regardless of their sensory needs.
